As residents of the Bay Area, we are deeply honored and very proud for San Francisco to be selected as the only city in North America for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. Since it’s inception in 1987, Nan Hai Arts Center has always been dedicated to the promotion of Chinese culture and friendly exchanges between China and the United States. To welcome the Olympic Torch to San Francisco, Nan Hai Arts Center is thrilled to present “2008 Beijing Olympics: Paper-Cuts of Chinese Folk Sports & Games Exhibition” on April 5, 2008.

Paper-cut is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of over 1,500 years. The artworks presented at this exhibition focus solely on Chinese folk sports and games. Many of the scenes depicted in the paper-cuts can still be found in today’s Olympic Games. Some of the sports depicted in the artworks have been listed among China’s non-materialistic cultural heritages. Each piece of art displayed represents the spirit of the folk artists as well as the Chinese people and their heartfelt desire for a successful Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
